In this video I tested the FiiO JT7 and compared it directly to its bigger brother, the FiiO FT1 Pro, plus a quick reality check against the Audio-Technica R50X. The big question was simple: is this $110 “JT line” planar basically an FT1 Pro for half the price? Out of the box, the JT7 honestly surprised me—tons of accessories (including a balanced cable), a super nice-looking exposed planar driver, and a build that’s more versatile than I expected with solid adjustments, swivel/pivot, and even a Velcro-replaceable headband pad. Sound-wise, the JT7 is straight up better than the FT1 Pro in bass quantity and impact. It’s the most bassy open-back planar I’ve heard at this price—super fun, thumpy, and the soundstage feels huge, partly because the pads are thicker and perforated. But the tradeoff is the midrange sounds more distant/scooped, and the top-end treble feels more reserved and darker. The FT1 Pro is still my pick overall because it sounds more natural, cleaner, and more detailed up top, and it’s also the better headphone for gaming imaging/footsteps. If you’re a bass-first person, the JT7 is a ridiculous value; if you want a more “audiophile” balanced presentation, I’d go FT1 Pro.
