In this video I’m checking out the SYNCO XView M4 selfie monitor, and the whole idea is simple: stop relying on that tiny front camera when your best cameras are on the back of your phone. I’ve always been super curious about these monitors, because the hardest part of using the rear cameras for selfies or group shots is making sure you’re centered, not blinking, and actually framed right. This basically gives you a high-quality screen on the back of your phone so you can see exactly what the rear camera sees. I tested it on Android with a MagSafe-style case, snapped it on magnetically, and walked through setup. The wording in the guide was a little different than what I’m used to, but once I used my phone’s Smart View/mirror screen option and paired Bluetooth, it was extremely easy. The screen quality feels very nice, it shows battery and modes, and you control it with buttons (it’s not a touchscreen). I also like that the power button can act as a shutter for photos or video, plus you get rotation/flip controls and even volume and brightness adjustments. For travel and quick content, this is something I’d actually use.
