About This Video

Once or twice a year Games Workshop runs Golden Demon—the biggest Warhammer painting competition on the planet—and it’s genuinely one of my favourite times in the hobby calendar. This video is my “official unofficial reporter” roundup of the final Golden Demon of 2024, held in Germany at Spiel Essen. I couldn’t make it in person (again… the FOMO is real), but I followed the event super closely online so I could show you the coolest, best-painted miniatures, my personal favourites, and of course the overall Slayer Sword winner. I walk through the big categories—40K single mini and unit, Age of Sigmar single, Underworlds warbands, Horus Heresy, Necromunda, Epic Scale, Open, and Youngbloods—calling out what makes the winning paint jobs sing: flawless NMM and NMM “metals,” insane smooth blends, moody storytelling dioramas, and those little “quiet Warhammer moments” that hit way harder than endless combat. I also highlight some brilliant entries that didn’t place, because every year amazing work slips through the net. We finish on Diorama & Duel (absolute masterpieces this year) and then the Slayer Sword: David Perryman (The Infernal Brush) with a jaw-droppingly perfect Trugg, complete with ridiculously clean resin water effects. If this doesn’t make you want to pick up a brush, I don’t know what will.
