In this video I finally get my grubby little hobby hands on Trench Crusade’s first-ever plastic kit, and I give it the full Rogue Hobbies works: unboxing, close-up sprue peeping, building, and a proper comparison to the kind of high-quality plastic I’m used to (yes, I’m looking at you, Games Workshop). The box is a Prussian warband starter (eight minis), and the first thing that genuinely surprised me is there’s no paper instructions—because Trench Crusade went for a QR code that links to a free 72-page PDF with rules, lore, artwork, starter lists, and even full team credits. Incredibly based move, and honestly something I wish was standard across the hobby. Then I pick my victim: Hoppman Frederica von Goltz. Instead of going full “soggy trench grimdark,” I throw caution (and the setting) out the window and try a noble-bright twist that absolutely shouldn’t work… but somehow does. I tackle my metallic fears with my best-ever attempt at non-metallic metal armour, go full Rapunzel with bright blonde hair, paint a polished-to-the-nines tank-splitter sword with power-sword logic, and even sneak in a Scottish tartan Easter egg. I finish it all off with a demonic base glow and a magnetised plinth setup so she can be both display-worthy and actually playable—because yes, I do want to play a game for once.
