About This Video

Over the holidays I asked you lot for your biggest mini painting questions, expecting the usual stuff like wet blending and motivation… and then my inbox got absolutely dominated by one thing: “How do I glaze?” So in this video I put together the full, no-nonsense masterclass on glazing—what it is, what it isn’t, and how to actually use it without turning your model into a streaky, sad mess. (Also yes, my voice is croaky because I was properly ill—against my will, because I’m a natural born yapper.) I break glazing down as a controlled, ultra-thin filter of colour—different to a wash because you’re placing it exactly where you want it and keeping it translucent. I show you the basic setup (palette, clean brush with a good tip, clean water, slightly damp paper towel) and the consistency I aim for: roughly a 20/80 paint-to-water mix, then crucially unloading most of it onto the towel for control. From there we hit the big four uses: blending (including my faster “block in bands then soften transitions” method for stuff like power swords), building contrast and depth with transparent paints, tinting to shift a hue (like warming up a pale face), and my personal favourite—boosting saturation so your colours look properly punchy instead of weirdly dull once they dry.
