About This Video

For a while, I was pretty convinced that Warhammer and Gunpla could happily live in separate corners of my hobby brain. Then Bandai went and announced Gundam Assemble: a Warhammer-scale, hexbased miniature wargame with familiar grey plastic mobile suits, and yeah… they got me. In this video I unbox the Gundam card game boxes that include the early minis (I grabbed Heroic Beginnings and Zeon’s Rush), build them on-camera, and give you my first proper miniature-painter impressions—specifically as a long-term Warhammer addict and a fairly new Gundam hobbyist. I break down how the kits compare to Warhammer: the push-fit is genuinely ridiculous (in a good way), the mold lines are basically a non-issue, and the detail is sharp even if my selfish painter brain wanted a few more panels and rivets to go wild on. Then I pick the obvious choice—Grandpa, the RX-78-2—and paint it like a Warhammer mini… before I spiral into tiny freehand panel lines, PGU-inspired markings, and a bold, cell-shaded line-art approach to make the white armor actually pop. The big takeaway? This “simple” little Gundam ended up pushing my contrast and shadow placement so hard that it genuinely rewired my painting brain—and I’m pretty sure it’ll make my Warhammer stuff better too.
