About This Video

In this video I show you how to install Google Sheets as a desktop app so you can open it like a regular program instead of digging through tabs every time. Once it’s installed, it still works basically the same—only now it launches in its own app window, and you can pin it wherever you want for faster access. I’m on my desktop, I uninstall my existing Sheets app first, and then I walk you through doing it from scratch so you can follow along. There are two ways to do it, and I cover both. In Chrome, you go to Google Sheets, log in, hit the three-dot menu, hover over “Cast, save, and share,” and then click “Install page as app.” In Edge, you go to the three-dot menu, “More tools,” then “Apps,” and choose “Install this site as an app.” After you install in Edge, you’ll also get options like pinning to the taskbar, pinning to Start, creating a desktop shortcut, or auto-starting at login—use your own judgment there. When you’re done, you’ll have a Google Sheets icon on your desktop, and it opens Sheets as a standalone app.
