About This Video

In this video I show you how to install Google Meet as a desktop app, so you can open it straight from your desktop or taskbar instead of keeping another browser tab hanging around. I start by showing what the finished result looks like—Google Meet opens like a normal app, but you still get the same features you’re used to on the website. Then I delete it and walk you through putting it back the right way. I cover two methods: Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. On Chrome, you can install it either from the little “Install” button in the address bar, or from the three-dot menu under “Cast, save, and share” → “Install Google Meet.” On Edge, it’s basically the same idea: use the “app available” icon in the address bar, or go through the three-dot menu → “More tools” → “Apps” → “Install Google Meet.” After you install in Edge, you’ll get the extra prompt where you can choose things like pin to Start, pin to taskbar, create a desktop shortcut, or auto-start—use your own judgment there. When you’re done, you’ll have a clean desktop app shortcut that launches Meet in seconds.
