About This Video

In this video I show you how to add a custom background image to the New Tab page in Google Chrome on a Windows desktop PC. I keep it simple: open a New Tab (hit the little plus icon), then go straight to the pencil icon in the lower-right corner to open the customization sidebar. From there, you’ll see your current background preview and the option you actually need—Change theme. Once you click Change theme, you can pick from Chrome’s built-in options, but the main point here is uploading your own picture. Click Upload an image, find the image on your device, and open it—Chrome applies it right away as your New Tab background. After that, I also show you where to further customize the New Tab page by scrolling down to Shortcuts (enable/disable them) and toggling options like Show cards. Set it up how you want, close the sidebar, and you’re done.
