About This Video

Hey guys, Nicole here—this Moto Tip Monday is all about a tiny handlebar “hack” that makes a big difference when you’re trying to lift a taller, heavier bike off the kickstand. I start by introducing my own bike, my BMW F800 GS (a little under 500 lbs). I’m a shorter rider (I’m 5’3”), and my bike has a lowered seat and lowered suspension, so it’s pretty easy for me to pick up and get going. Then I hop on a taller bike where I can barely touch the ground (I’m on my tippy toes), and I show what happens when you try to lift it with the bars turned—it’s noticeably harder. The trick: while the bike is still on the kickstand, turn the handlebars all the way to the right and then lift. It’s so much easier, especially when you’re dealing with a bike that’s taller or just feels heavier than what you’re used to. I test it again on my boyfriend’s Ducati Multistrada, and even though it’s still heavy, it’s way less of a struggle with the handlebars turned all the way right. If you’ve been fighting your bike every time you go to lift it up, try this first—it can seriously save you effort and confidence.
