About This Video

In this video I’m installing a UniFi WiFi 6 AP (the U6 Pro / 6 Pro) in a home we’re working on, and I walk you through it from unboxing to adoption in the UniFi app. The big win on this one is we’re using an existing pre-wired wall port, so we don’t have to cut into the ceiling or climb around in a hot attic. I show what’s in the box, the mounting options (single-gang box, junction boxes, T-bar, and more), and how clean the hardware is—honestly it’s packaged so well it reminds me of an Apple product. Once it’s mounted, I open the UniFi app and it instantly shows “Ready to add U6 Pro.” From there it’s basically tap-to-adopt: it adopts, updates, and comes online as a wired AP. Then I show one of my favorite UniFi features—locking specific clients to a specific access point. Since the Dream Wall is downstairs (with its own built-in AP), I lock upstairs devices like a bedroom device, a Samsung TV, and an Ecobee thermostat to the new upstairs AP so they stay where they perform best. My approach is simple: I leave things like band steering at default first, watch how it performs in that environment, and then I’ll tune it later if needed.
