About This Video

In this video I’m installing a pretty dope “fandelier” style ceiling fan (HG HC xlst / Jonnika 20” vibe) that Miss RemoteLife picked out—muted brushed brass, built-in light kit, and perfect for a smaller bedroom (think 10x10-ish spec home rooms). Like a lot of these China fans, the “instructions” are basically nothing… so I walk you through what I do in real life: unboxing, prepping the ceiling box (we got lucky with a stud), and getting it mounted even when the wiring options aren’t what you’d want. Big takeaway: this is a two-wire setup (plus ground), so you’re not running separate fan/light control from the wall unless you’ve got the right wiring. I also hit a wild snag—we were missing the receiver/controller piece—so it turns into a troubleshooting episode. I show how I improvised with a universal receiver, explain what wires go where (red/white in, blue/black/white out), and then we get into the “smart switch hack” side of it. I tried a wall controller and owned the wiring mistake on camera, then shared what I learned: sometimes you need to ditch the fancy control and go back to a simple two-pole switch to make the setup behave. I also talk through using a Lutron smart plug idea for automating a switched outlet/lamp in the room.
