About This Video

What’s going on guys—Mr. RemoteLife here. In this one I’m doing a quick and easy plug-and-play HID headlight replacement on my 2016 Equus because one of my projectors started turning pink… and if you know HIDs, pink means it’s about to die. Sure enough, it finally quit, so I’m left with the LED ring on that side but no actual headlight output. I grabbed a set of Diode Dynamics bulbs that claim “plug and play,” and I walk you through what it really takes to swap them in. I start by popping the plastic covers and dealing with those Equus-specific clips (don’t pry them—push down to release or you’ll break them, and they’re pricier than you think). The shop manual makes it sound like “three screws and you’re done,” but real life says otherwise—you’ve got to loosen/pull the bumper a bit because the headlight lip sits under it. Once the housing is out, I inspect the ballast area, show what the burnt HID looks like, and swap the D1/D3-style bulb in. Big takeaways: don’t use a power tool on these screws because the headlights are adaptive and you don’t want to stress that mechanism, and don’t touch the glass on the HID bulb—oil from your hands can cause premature failure. Button it back up, clip it in, and you’re rocking and rolling.
