About This Video

Happy Vlogmas day 16—today’s 30 before 30 topic is ā€œsew for fun,ā€ and I’m basically dusting off my sewing machine and trying to fall back in love with sewing without any pressure. I talk about how I used to LOVE making pouches, but once I monetized them for my shop (and had to keep up with orders), it honestly started to annoy me. That’s the cozy small biz reality sometimes: turning a hobby into a product can totally ruin the therapeutic part of it. So in this vlog, I’m intentionally sewing for me—slow, no rush, no ā€œI need to finish this for content,ā€ just enjoying the process. I start by going through my winter/holiday fabric stash (aka the chaos cabinet) and picking projects based on what I already have. First, I finally finish a matching ruffled quilted placemat using thrifted floral fabric and linen—learning in real time that thick fabric ruffles are not for the weak. Then I pivot into a super easy fabric basket/catchall (no zipper, beginner-friendly), using a heart flannel with a green contrast lining, and I’m honestly obsessed with how cute it turned out. Along the way, I share how I’m planning for 2026 to be a big personal sewing year—more gifts, more apparel, more fun—and how outsourcing some sewing for my business has helped bring the joy back.
