In “BLUE MIND,” I share a short documentary passion project following Rada—an aspiring marine scientist and freediver—who’s dedicated to the preservation and health of our oceans. The film lives in that space between science and story: Rada’s childhood enchantment with mermaid tales, the feeling of collecting conch shells and “hoping to hear the sea within,” and the choice to keep following that magic even when there’s a scientific explanation. Her voiceover carries you into what freediving feels like—cold, comforting, edged with fear and deep respect—where survival sharpens the mind into a calm, clear focus. As the story deepens, Rada shifts from dreamy wonder to stark reality: yes, plastic pollution is real, but so are coral bleaching and ocean acidification. The point isn’t doom—it’s awareness, and the “pure realisation that a problem exists,” because we’re part of the problem and also part of the solution. My biggest takeaway from making and sharing this piece is the same one I coach filmmakers on: if you want real change, you have to touch people’s hearts. That’s what “Blue Mind” is about—using cinematic storytelling to spark curiosity beyond the surface and make ocean literacy feel personal.
