In this video I’m sharing my book review for How to Write a Love Story by Catherine Walsh, which was actually a Book of the Month pick for me. I almost didn’t even pick it up (I was seriously on the fence and almost skipped the month), but I’m so glad I did because this one surprised me in the best way. It’s a rom-com/contemporary romance, and I can be a little picky with rom-coms—sometimes the jokes feel forced or like they’re trying too hard—but this book didn’t feel like that at all. For me, the humor was the perfect amount and it was always spot on, and I genuinely thought it was really cute. The setup is: the main character is an author, her dad was a well-known fantasy author, and after he passes away she has to finish the final book in his series. She’s struggling to stay on track, so the publishing company sends an editor to help keep her motivated—and of course, they end up falling for each other. I also loved that the story itself felt even stronger than just the romance, like the love story was almost a bonus. I flew through it in just a handful of days and I’m giving it five stars.
