About This Video

In this video I’m sharing a book review and recommendation for Finding My Way by Malala Yousafzai, and I genuinely loved it. It was funny, thoughtful, and emotional all at the same time—just one of those memoirs that really sticks with you. I had previously read I Am Malala (which focuses more on her childhood, the Taliban, and fleeing Pakistan), and this one feels like stepping into her next chapter as she grows into adulthood. Finding My Way is centered around Malala’s life in college, figuring out who she is, and meeting her future husband. I especially loved reading about her relationship with Asser, and how touching it was to see her wrestle with expectations from the culture she grew up in—like not wanting to be a “traditional wife,” but still loving him and wanting to be with him, while also not being able to do things on her own terms. I also appreciated her honesty about struggling in school sometimes while advocating so strongly for girls’ and women’s education. I gave this one five stars and it may honestly be a favorite of the year—especially on audiobook, because Malala narrates it herself, and hearing her tell her own story made it feel even more personal.
