About This Video

We’ve just gone on the most amazing LEGO road trip — from Wellington all the way up to Hamilton — and we stopped at every centre we could to see what LEGO hauls we could find. The main mission was picking up 30kg of bulk LEGO, but the detours were half the fun: a quick stop in Palmerston North turned into a minifigure score for under $2 a figure, plus a Star Wars Dark Trooper set for $20. Of course, typical D2 fashion, we even hit the “no internet” problem in the middle of nowhere, which makes Marketplace hunting a bit of a gamble. Once we got back to the LEGO room (aka our BrickLink store), I broke down the best haul of 2024: minifigures, parts, and accessories. We pulled serious value early with Lord of the Rings — including Soldier of the Dead, Phantom General, Witch-king, and more — plus a mix of Star Wars, Ninjago, Dimensions, Marvel, Scooby-Doo, and loads of collectible minifigures. I also walk through how I identify and quality-check figs (spinning them, checking cracks under arms, chips, bite marks), when I stop trying to complete them, and when it’s smarter to part them out as torsos/heads/legs/accessories. By the end, we’re over $2,000 of value just from minifigs and minifig accessories — and we still had ~26kg of bulk parts left to sort and upload.
