About This Video

In this vlog I’m taking you through what my pottery life looks like one year into apprenticing in Jingdezhen—aka the unglamorous, super satisfying in-between stage where I’m finally starting to trust my hands. You’ll see me trimming my pieces, doing a little qinghua cup reveal, and squeezing in the last days of throwing practice. I also share a vase lesson, plus my attempts at bigger pots (which is always humbling), because scaling up isn’t just “more clay”—it’s different timing, different pressure, and a lot more chances to collapse something right at the end. I also bring you along for glaze day, which is where everything feels like a leap of faith: the work is “done,” but the final look is still locked behind firing. I talk honestly about where I’m at as a potter right now—what’s improved, what still feels inconsistent, and what I’m focusing on next as I leave Jingdezhen. If you’re learning to throw, trimming feels scary, or you’re wondering what progress actually looks like after a year, this video is basically my real-time check-in.
