In this video, I’m following a Chinese porcelain Master’s handbook and working through a super practical 5-step guide to throwing off the hump (part 1). I filmed it like a “come with me for the week” studio vlog—so you can actually follow along whether you’re brand new to off-the-hump throwing or you just want a clean refresher on the fundamentals. This is very much Jingdezhen-style learning: repeat the steps, watch what changes, and let the clay teach you what you missed. I also share some context from my apprenticeship life in Jingdezhen—how I’m thinking about efficiency, consistency, and why off-the-hump is such a game changer when you’re trying to make multiples.
