About This Video

In this video, I’m sharing a big life update: I became a pottery apprentice in China. I’m Katherine (丫丫 / yāyā), and this is the start of my Jingdezhen apprentice life—what it feels like to commit to learning ceramics in a place where porcelain culture is everywhere. Even with the audio being a little rough in this one (sorry!), I wanted to document the beginning of this chapter while it’s still fresh: the nerves, the excitement, and the very real “okay… we’re doing this” moment of choosing apprenticeship as my path. This is less of a polished tutorial and more of a studio vlog milestone—why I came, what I’m hoping to learn, and what you can expect from me next: throwing lessons, studio tours, and lots of ceramic experiments as I settle into the rhythm here. This video is also sponsored by LuLu Handmade Pottery, and I linked a bunch of their pieces that I genuinely think are beautiful references for form, surface, and functional details—things I pay attention to constantly now that I’m training more seriously. If you’re curious about what apprenticing in Jingdezhen can look like (and you want to follow the messy, honest progress), you’re in the right place.
