In this video I’m doing my January Reading Wrap Up, and I’m not even kidding—I read the most I think I’ve read in a month since Alice has been born. I’m sharing my StoryGraph-ish stats, my honest ratings (including a couple one-stars), and what actually worked for me this month as a cozy, real-life mom who’s squeezing reading in wherever I can (usually while I’m baking or making dinner). I also talk about how I’ve been reading more by putting real restrictions on my phone—social media timers, plus my Brick—so I’m building the habit of grabbing my Kindle instead of doom-scrolling. For the books: Best Offer Wins was a super fast, original thriller (real estate + an unhinged main character…perfect timing since we’re about to move), and Sister Wife was my five-star—Christine narrates the audiobook and I literally cried listening. On the flip side, I Just Wish I Had a Bigger Kitchen was a hard no for me (it felt like straight complaining with no real payoff), and Woman Down was another one-star because it’s not the “thriller” it’s marketed as and the issues never get resolved. I also break down why The Bright Years worked better for me in ebook than audio (the time jumps + POV switches were confusing). Then I share my February TBR with buddy reads in my Fable book club, plus a mix of romance, memoir, nonfiction, and a few titles I’m hoping to get to during our February move.
