About This Video

I’m back up in one of my favorite Montana fire lookouts—the same fire tower you’ve probably seen if you’ve been around the channel for a while. I hopped on to do a quick tour, soak in the views, and celebrate that the last fire tower video is sitting around 1.3 million views. It’s windy up here, but you can actually tuck into the calm side of the tower where the structure blocks most of it. Odi’s in full chaos mode chasing ground squirrels, and I’m over here trying not to become “Lord of the Flies” because there are a ton of flies inside right now. Inside, I walk through what’s stocked in this lookout—bunks, a table, drawers with pots and pans, plates and silverware, and even some cool lookout stories, poems, and logbook entries. I also point out the famous “toilet” situation down below (yep, that one), talk about ticks (found one—smashed him), and explain that these are decommissioned towers—you’re not up here to scout for fires. If you want to rent one, I go through how I book mine on Recreation.gov, usually by watching for cancellations and setting notifications. I’m planning a full video drop soon, and tonight’s tower dinner plan is a garlic parmesan steak tortellini with the Jetboil.
