Winter camping in Montana always comes with a little uncertainty. In this video, Odi and I head out for a quiet overnight camp along a remote Montana river as a winter storm rolls in. Snow falls through the night, the river keeps moving beside camp, and the landscape settles into that deep, silent calm that only winter brings. By morning, unexpected high winds turn an easy wake-up into a real challenge, testing both camp and patience. Just when it feels like the weather might win, the sky begins to break open—revealing blue patches, soft light on the snow, and one of the most breathtaking drives out you can imagine. Snow-covered trees, winding roads, and open river valleys make the exit just as memorable as the night itself. If you enjoy Montana winter camping, peaceful river camps, truck camping with a dog, and real-world moments where plans don’t go perfectly—but the experience is better because of it—this one’s for you. 🐶 Buy Hunter & Odi Merch: www.hunterpauley.com 🔥 Support the Channel & Buy Odi a Treat https://buymeacoffee.com/hunterpauley 🗺 Find Spots Like This with OnX Offroad — Save 20% with code GAINZ https://www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app?rstr=4492&utm_source=Roster&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=HunterPauley-4492 🚐 My Super Pacific X1 Camper — Use launch code 933 for $250 toward accessories: https://superpacificusa.com/ 🛠 Gear I Use & Recommend (Affiliate links help support the channel at no extra cost to you) 🏕️ Camping Gear: Howl R1 Propane Campfire: https://alnk.to/bEl8Spf Omnia Oven for Stove Top Cooking - https://amzn.to/4ovVfxd Barebones Edison Light Stick - https://amzn.to/3KNHQly 20lb Propane Tank Cover – https://amzn.to/3UWjO9m Kelty Low Loveseat – https://amzn.to/4hOnSlT Jetboil Flash – https://amzn.to/4gSNOM7 iKamper Disco Skottle (Use code "GAINZ") – https://rstr.co/ikamper/gainz 270º FSR Free Standing Awning (Use "GAINZ" to save 5%) – https://alnk.to/dAnucWQ Fiskars Wood Splitting Axe – https://amzn.to/4gvt5h4 3-in-1 CO, Humidity & Temp Meter – https://amzn.to/4g3V6Mk Black Diamond Moji Lantern – https://amzn.to/3YP0pss Milwaukee 8" Pruning Chainsaw – https://amzn.to/4juSSsi Blackbeard Fire Plugs – https://amzn.to/4hxBVvN 📸 Camera Gear: Sony a7S III (video) – https://amzn.to/3YunFfo Sony A7 IV (photo) – https://amzn.to/3UzBdEW DJI Mavic 4 Pro - https://amzn.to/4olXv9l Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 – https://amzn.to/3UvDZLy Tamron 17-28mm f2.8 – https://amzn.to/3UxIQvI Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 – https://amzn.to/3Yzmpay Peak Design Tripod – https://amzn.to/3Cc9mVi Neewer Carbon Fiber Tripod – https://amzn.to/3AkgQoB Sennheiser Condenser Microphone - https://amzn.to/4mBvv0Z DJI Mic Mini - https://amzn.to/4itXhvt Sony ECM-B10 Mic - https://amzn.to/4ak9rVF 📬 Send Odi & I Mail Hunter Pauley P.O. About This Video

It has been a hot second, but I’m finally back out snow camping in Montana with Odi—and I had to chase the little window of winter we’re actually getting. December and early January were basically just rain (if you’re in the PNW, you know exactly what I mean), so when the forecast called for snow in the valley—about 4 to 6 inches—I loaded up and headed for a quiet river camp. We’re not way up some high mountain on this one; we’re tucked next to moving water, and you can hear that creek/river noise the whole time. That combo of falling snow and river sound is hard to beat. Dinner was simple and perfect for a storm night: grilled cheese and tomato soup. Later, I tested something new in the Omnia oven—cookies—and they actually turned out legit (no burnt bottoms). Once it was time to shut everything down, I crawled into the Super Pacific and let the Truma heater do its thing. One of my favorite parts of this setup is how consistent it holds temp compared to a typical diesel heater, and with the splitter I can keep Odi warm downstairs while I’m toasty up top. By morning, the wind picked up like crazy and turned coffee into a full-on challenge, but it also lined up for some of the best drone shots I’ve ever wanted—truck across the river, snow ripping, and that sky finally starting to break. Plans didn’t go perfectly, but that’s kind of the whole point out here.
