Cheers, guys—this one is a moody fall truck camp in Montana with Odi and me, posted up by a lake with that unreal golden larch glow. It was drizzling on and off when we rolled in, so I deployed the awning right away and picked a more protected spot down in the trees since the forecast was calling for wind gusts up to around 30 mph. Sunset’s coming earlier now (around 6:30), but the drive-in was absolutely epic—larches turning yellow is like Montana gets two falls, and it’s always something I try to catch every year. For dinner I kept it simple and seasonal: a New York steak from a local butcher shop in Columbia Falls, plus steamed butternut squash smashed with garlic butter, salt, and pepper. Later, with the rain coming down pretty good, I tested a new piece of gear I’ve wanted to try for a long time—the Omnia oven—so I could make cinnamon rolls on a stovetop without needing a fire or Dutch oven. I also pulled up the Windy app (recommended by a fire tower lookout) to keep an eye on the incoming weather. The night brought heavy wind and a ton of rain load on the awning, the Truma heater kept the camper comfortable, and by morning we were even getting a little spit of snow.
