About This Video

I went live from the top of a mountain in Northwest Montana—about 6,700 feet—hanging out at a rented fire tower lookout while a winter advisory was rolling in. Cell service was sketchy (even being close-ish to town), but I wanted to jump on, show you guys the clouds pushing in, and talk through the real decision you end up making on trips like this: do you ride it out up high, or bail to lower elevation before you get snowed in. When I got up there it was around 35°, and it was already trying to spit snow. In the live I answered a bunch of questions about how these fire lookouts work (yes, you reserve them—most of the ones I’ve done are through recreation.gov), what the access is like (this one’s basically drive-to with a short walk), and what the plan was for the night. I also introduced Odie for anyone new—my 30 lb miniature labradoodle who’s basically glued to my shadow. Before hopping off, I talked dinner plans (smash burgers) and a new way I’m testing cinnamon rolls on the wood stove, plus a quick update that merch is in the works—stickers first, and a shirt design that obviously has to include Odie.
