Fire Tower in Montana (snowing?)

About This Video

In this live update, I’m up at a Montana fire tower sitting around 6,700 feet, and the weather is doing that classic shoulder-season thing—fogged in, spitting snow, and I’m under a winter storm advisory/warning for the area. I rolled in about an hour and a half before going live, and even though the views (and the drone footage) coming up here are absolutely unreal, the reality is I’m making decisions based on safety first. Fire towers are steep-road country, and if this turns into rain-then-freeze or the snow stacks up overnight, getting out in the morning could get sketchy fast. Right now it’s about 4:30 PM, around 36 degrees when I arrived, and I’ve got a solid fire going—which is a huge perk when it’s socked in like this. I’m at least making dinner up here and watching how the storm develops with a few hours of daylight left to decide whether I stay the night or drop back down. I also talk through the stuff I’m always thinking about out here—bear awareness, being even more cautious about mountain lions (especially with Odi), and just staying alert when you’re camping remote in Montana. I also give a quick look around the lookout setup—truck parked nearby, firewood shed, and the pit toilet building.
