I headed out in Montana while the whole state was getting hammered by snow—Missoula, the Bitterroot, and where I was camped in the Swan/Seeley area. The wild part was the contrast: the drive out of Kalispell around 1:30 was absolutely brutal with wind, but once I got to camp it went dead calm. No trees moving, just steady snowfall stacking up fast. I walked around the truck to show how deep it was getting—right up around my knee—and I was honestly hoping we’d pull a full foot overnight. I also ran through some of the real-world stuff you deal with in storms, like Starlink getting obstructed from snow buildup. I had to turn on the dish heater so it could melt off and keep the connection alive. On the camp setup side, I’ve got the FSR 270 awning out, and because the snow was loading it up, I ran legs on all corners to support the weight. For power, I’m running heated lithium Power Queen batteries (full disclosure: I got them free), and they’ve been fantastic—especially for winter. Dinner was simple and solid: quesadillas and some Costco soup, because easy and good is the move when it’s dumping like that.
