About This Video

What’s up, fellow builders? In this video I unbox, build, and review a new bootleg brand: QIANYI MODEL’s 1/144 HG Black Knight Squad CAL-RE A—basically a bootleg copy of Bandai’s Cal-re A that showed up in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie. I go through the build experience and focus on the stuff you actually care about on bootlegs: plastic feel, color separation, joints, stickers, and the annoying parts that can ruin the final look. Verdict time: the build is pretty easy, but you need extra care with the tiny gold parts because they’re fragile and easy to lose. The plastic quality honestly surprised me—solid, and it feels almost on par with Bandai, so no complaints there. Color separation is fantastic too: you get two shades of gold and two shades of white, which makes the kit pop right out of the box. The joints are just okay since it uses polycaps, so it can hold poses but don’t expect premium articulation. The foil effect parts look nice, but if you can get the sold-separate effect parts, those are way better and easier to install. Biggest issues: the hand cover part keeps falling off (my tip: glue it), and the stickers suck—use the eye stickers only and ditch the rest. For the price, it’s an impressive bootleg, but like I always say: if you have the chance to get the Bandai, get it.
