About This Video

In this video I unbox and review the Wainlux K8 laser engraver (the little cube-style machine with the classy black exterior) and put it through a bunch of real beginner-friendly tests. I walk through what’s in the box, including the materials pack (vinyl, faux leather, craft paper/cardstock, wood/plywood, scratch paper, and metal cards), plus the accessories I found inside the machine like dog tags, a locator, brush, and USB cable. The best surprise? It’s basically ready to go out of the box—no screws, no bolts, no building your own machine. I also show the setup process, drivers, and the CutlabX software. Honestly, I love the machine, but the software… not so much. The camera is a must in my opinion (especially for coasters, tags, and metal cards), and I share a couple of quirks like needing to tap the camera option twice sometimes. Then I test engraving on MDF (beautiful results), cardstock (great for cards and journals), a tiny metal dog tag, and even cutting coaster patterns and a dragonfly model kit—where material thickness really matters. My big takeaway: the K8 is a fantastic compact beginner laser, and I’m planning to run it with LightBurn next.
