About This Video

In this video I take a first look at the Longer Ray5 10W laser engraver and walk you through a quick unboxing, assembly, and first engraving project in LightBurn. I show what comes in the box (including the laser module, power supply, USB cable, touchscreen, safety glasses, and a really handy labeled hardware bag), and I share my thoughts on the build quality. It feels sturdy and solid without feeling cheap, but it’s also light enough to move around easily. I also point out a couple of small design notes—like the cabling being pretty standard for this price point and the USB port placement being a little awkward up on top. After setup, I connect the Ray5 to my computer and show the exact steps I used to add it to LightBurn (GRBL, Serial/USB, 400mm x 400mm, and I unselect auto-home). I also go through a few key LightBurn settings I always recommend enabling, then I create a material test pattern on the included plywood using a simple tile as a protective base. From that test, I pick settings for my first project—an eagle engraving at 4000 speed and 30% power—and the result came out beautifully. Part 2 is where I’ll dig into cutting, more materials, and the touchscreen in more detail.
