About This Video

In this video I show you exactly how I engraved denim jeans with the LaserPecker 2, and why a small portable machine can actually make a “tricky to position” project feel easy. I start by detaching the laser from the base (don’t skip holding the handle while you undo the screw underneath), then I connect to the desktop software and import a PNG butterfly design. I used a butterfly bundle from Creative Fabrica, sized it based on a quick measurement across the jeans, and used Preview to position everything right on the fabric. Because we’re engraving on denim, I selected the Cloth material setting, but I didn’t just trust the defaults. The default was 70 power and depth 2; after testing, I bumped the depth up to 5 to get a cleaner result. I strongly recommend doing test engraves on scrap denim (same color and type if possible), or at least testing in an inconspicuous spot. Once dialed in, the LaserPecker 2 engraved quickly and beautifully—only removing the top layer, not tearing when stretched, and not going through to the back of the jeans. After the butterflies, I added filled stars and hearts using the built-in shapes, and even did a super cute set for a one-year-old using a cat face on the pockets. Clean, fast, and honestly a lot of fun.
