If your stubborn breed can truly master three commands—sit, stay, and come—you can solve about 80% of the behavior issues most people struggle with. In this video, I break down how I teach those commands using my Play & Praise Method: no treats, no force, no fancy tools—just real connection, timing, and trust. I also share a quick win from one of my students whose dog went from barking and jumping on guests to sitting, staying, and staying calm after a few short sessions. I start with “sit” because it’s not just a trick—it’s a mindset. Sit builds focus and self-control, which is exactly what reactive dogs need to regulate emotions. Then I show “stay,” the part most owners mess up because they rush it. Stay builds trust and predictability, so your dog feels safe instead of stressed. Finally, I teach the basics of recall (“come”) on a 6ft leash at home first, because this command can literally save your dog’s life and it builds bond—the dog learns that being near you is the best place to be. Teach first, then practice with play, and repeat enough reps to make it real.
