About This Video

In this video, I react to two popular dog training videos and break down what I agree with—and where I think the advice can go sideways fast, especially for reactive and “stubborn breed” dogs. I start with Zach George and talk about the reality that reactivity isn’t just the big loud explosions you see on leash. A dog can be “quiet reactive” too—internally stressed, shutting down, or battling fear without making a scene. I also explain why putting a dog into an environment where they’re already losing it is a red flag. You don’t fix reactivity by flooding the dog with triggers and hoping it works. Then I get into the biggest issue I see with treat-heavy approaches: you end up depending on food, the “high value” keeps changing, and most dogs won’t even take treats when they’re over threshold. I’d rather build a foundation first—connection, trust, and the dog learning to take information from the owner—then we bring in the 3Ds (distance, duration, distractions) the right way. I also touch on internal health and gut health, because a stressed, anxious dog is often not healthy on the inside. Finally, I react to a board-and-train style clip and explain why “discipline fixed this dog for this session” is the key phrase. Temporary compliance isn’t the same as real emotional change, and I’m not a fan of dictatorship-style handling. My goal is calm control through the Play & Praise Method—no treats, no force—just real connection.
