In this video, I tested two of the most underrated “free hosting” options: Cloudflare Pages vs GitHub Pages. The big catch (for both) is that you’re basically hosting static sites—so think HTML/CSS/JS, not a traditional dynamic WordPress install. I walk through the real setup process using the same HTML template on both platforms, including custom domains, and I call out the little quirks that actually matter when you’re trying to get a site live quickly. Cloudflare Pages is the clear winner for most people. It’s easier to set up, it runs on Cloudflare’s massive CDN footprint (335 cities), and you can even run select serverless functions via Cloudflare Workers. GitHub Pages works, but it feels behind: I ran into janky HTTPS behavior (you have to enforce HTTPS), public repo limitations on free accounts, and the whole “one github.io subdomain per account” thing makes multiple sites feel unnecessarily complicated. Speed-wise, both are blazing fast and the GTmetrix results were so close we’re splitting hairs—minus a weird San Antonio result I don’t fully trust. I also give an honorable mention to bunny.net as a cheap, fast alternative (not free), and I explain the tradeoff if you actually need WordPress: you may be better off paying for low-cost hosting like Hostinger or DreamHost.
