I asked ChatGPT Atlas to buy a domain for me… and it actually did. It used my saved card and spent my money, which is the moment it clicked: Atlas isn’t just a browser, it’s an assistant that can act for you. In this video I walk through the Atlas setup (rocky start with profile errors), the minimalist Chromium-based UI, and the core AI features like the ChatGPT sidebar, highlighting text for help, and letting your browsing history influence responses (which I’m not personally excited about from a privacy standpoint). The real headline is Agent Mode. I tested whether it could “do the work” on real sites—Porkbun for a domain purchase, and American Airlines for a 24-hour flight hold. It successfully stepped through the process, and I’m pretty confident it could’ve bought the ticket if I told it to. That’s wildly convenient… and also kind of terrifying. I also show where Agent Mode falls apart—like trying to build a WordPress.com site, where it struggled with themes and page building while acting way too confident. I wrap with the biggest concern: prompt injection and what that could mean when an AI can click buttons while you’re signed in. Atlas has potential, but right now it’s slow, inconsistent, and not something I’d rush to switch to.
