I'm sharing 6 Things I Wish I Knew Before My First Internship! When I was applying for my 1st internship, I was worried, anxious & mega confused: I was tempted to immediately accept the 1st offer I received; I was VERY afraid to speak up; I found myself evading work socialization events; I did not put in any effort to network; I also did not try to reflect nor write down lessons learnt. Hope that my advice will help you to maximize your internship opportunity as well as give you the confidence for what is ahead! For a FULL STEP-BY-STEP INTERNSHIP GUIDE, do watch my other video: Everything You Should Know Before An Internship https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GxEh061nsA Let's dive in! Bookmark this list: 00:28 Tip 1: Don't rush to say yes! (Remember that saying yes to one internship means saying no to all other offers! Be selective, be thoughtful, be intentional and take your time to think through. *Exception is if you have a deadline to get back by. 02:44 Tip 2: Speak up, even as an intern! (Because your opinion matters. As an intern, you are a set of fresh eyes. Speaking up also allows you to share your personal insights and let others have a glimpse of your thought-process!) Have confidence! 05:02 Tip 3: Go for as many work socialization events! (Every time I wanted to skip on a social but I never regretted it.) It also makes your internship much more fulfilling and exciting. Also building relationships while on projects and with external clients. Beyond forming a good impression, it's about making FRIENDS. 06:09 Tip 4: Build relationships! Beyond your team, manager, department, and company. Build relationships with your clients, contractors, and customers. The relationships you build during your internships will go a long way, even after you have left. 06:38 Tip 5: Reflect and write down your best learning points to internalize the lessons, and to remember them even years later. (It enables you to be more introspective which helps you to be more self-aware, you learn a lot faster, AND you won't forget.) Till today, because of this method and habit I have to document down things I learn and even re-reading some meeting minutes, I remember things from my first internship. 07:19 Tip 6: Not too generic, not too niche.
