About This Video

In this video, I’m sharing my own 10 reasons why I majored in marketing as a marketing senior, and it’s really just me putting all my thoughts on the table so you can make a more informed choice for yourself. Marketing is honestly broad and sometimes hard to define—there are so many facets like communication, new media, PR, advertising, SEO, performance marketing, analytics, and branding. I also talk about how I’ve heard the usual comments like “marketing is useless” or “there’s no money in marketing,” and I’m not here to debunk anyone—I’m just sharing my personal perspective from studying Business (Marketing) and what I’ve learned over time. A big reason I love marketing is the mix of science and art. On one side, it’s very data-driven: funnels, conversion rates, impressions, CTR, CPC, CPA—understanding what’s happening and translating that into better campaigns. On the other side, you get to be creative: visuals, storytelling, branding, understanding people’s worldviews and demographics, and testing ideas until you optimize what works. I also explain why marketing is action- and results-oriented (you can actually see impact on sales and business performance), super people-oriented (you work across teams and with agencies), and powerful enough to shape society—so marketing literacy matters if you don’t want to fall for gimmicks or “fake marketing science.”
