About This Video

Mom and I have been busy, busy, busy, and in this video we put together a quilt that looks fancy but is honestly so simple: my Twinkling Stars quilt. I’m sharing our fabric pull (soft florals and pastels), the basic “notebook math” behind the layout (24 blocks total), and the key cuts you need so you can jump right in. The free pattern is on my website, and it includes instructions for both a baby quilt and a throw size. I walk you through the one unit you really need to master for this quilt: the star point block made with the sew-and-flip (snowball) technique. I show exactly how I stitch the diagonal (crease, pencil line, or seam tape—at Mom’s machine we use a simple piece of low-stick tape with a drawn line), why I press first, and how I trim after pressing to keep things tidy. Then I share my low-stress way to “randomize” scrappy colors across multiple blocks by rotating fabric positions—so it feels scrappy and playful without overthinking. The finished quilt top has stars that dance across it, and I can already tell I’ll be making this one again, just a little bigger and even scrappier.
