In this video, I take you inside my design process and present a few options for a brand new scrappy quilt design. Which one is your favourite? Leave a comment below with your vote - I'll tally the results, then prepare a tutorial and free pattern with all the instructions, fabric requirements and measurements to create our scrappy quilt design. Visit my website at: www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com **Note - it may take me a few weeks to make the quilt!! I'll collect votes for a week or so and then get sewing, so look for the tutorial video in late April or May 2026.

About This Video

In this video I’m taking you right into my quilt design process—and I want you to help me choose what we’re making next. I started with a photo from an old Missouri Star Quilt Company calendar (a “tilted nine patch” look), and it sent me down a rabbit hole in my software: what happens when we keep the heart of that block, but start moving a few “bits and pieces” around? With scrappy quilting, tiny changes can create big, bold secondary designs, and I show you exactly how that plays out. I walk through five real options, from the simplest version that stays truest to the original layout, to designs that suddenly reveal Ohio Stars, diamonds, and a mosaic-style effect with less background fabric. You’ll see how swapping a few nine-patch squares to background, flipping flying geese directions, and shifting color placement can completely change the quilt top—sometimes for the better, and sometimes into what I (lovingly) call a big old mess. Your job now: vote in the comments. I’ll tally the results, then commit to the winning design with a full tutorial and a free pattern (fabric requirements, measurements, and step-by-step sewing) once I’ve made the quilt.
