The Fat Quarter Four Patch is a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. Download the pattern here: https://www.fatquartershop.com/fat-quarter-four-patch-quilt-pattern-free-pdf-pattern-fat-quarter-shop. I re-sized the pattern to make it work better with the fabric I had (and to make a few more blocks). In total, I made 48 blocks for the 6x8 layout. The final quilt is 54x72 inches. Each block is 9.5 inches (9 inches finished in the quilt). To make the blocks this size, cut your strips at 2 inches wide for the nine patch blocks and 5 inch squares for the other pieces of the four patch. This quilt will be donated to either: Victoria’s Quilts Canada: https://www.victoriasquiltscanada.com/ or Quilts of Valour Canada: https://www.quiltsofvalour.ca/ I used this fabric collection to make another project called I Spy a Four Patch. About This Video

In this video I’m making the Fat Quarter Four Patch quilt using a free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop—and if you know me, you know I’m going to change it up just a little bit. I wanted a quilt that really emphasizes the fabric and doesn’t need a ton of background (because I was running short), so this “unassuming” pattern was perfect. I’m working with the rest of a Connecting Threads fat quarter bundle left over from my I Spy a Four Patch quilt, and I’ll show you how I resized the block so it works better with what I had on hand. Kimberly’s original pattern uses bigger pieces, but I did the math and tested a block until I landed on a 9.5" block (9" finished): 2" strips for the nine-patch units and 5" squares for the four-patch alternates. My goal was 48 blocks in a 6x8 layout for a 54" x 72" quilt—just right for a donation size for Victoria’s Quilts Canada or Quilts of Valour Canada. Along the way, I share my best “measure your fat quarters!” lesson, because mine were shy of 18" wide and that completely changed the plan. We still made it work with a few smart compromises, efficient strip sets, and a balanced floor layout that gives the whole quilt a modern, dancing pop of pale grey.
