I'm sad to report that my Juki TL-2010Q is broken and even my trusty sewing machine technician isn't able to fix her. The main problem seems to be accessing the necessary part / parts. And getting a rough estimate of the potential costs even if the parts were easily available. So what do I do now? Do I continue to try to get her repaired? But at what cost? Or do I buy a new machine? And if so, which machine?? I'd really value your advice and input!! About This Video

In this video I’m coming to you with a real sewing-room dilemma: my beloved Juki TL-2010Q (the machine I’ve used for close to 10 years) suddenly stopped mid-sew—no drama, no clunking, no thread nest… just stopped. The light still turns on, but “there’s nobody home,” and even Jason couldn’t troubleshoot it. I took it to my trusted technician, Matthew, and after a few weeks he told me he suspects the circuit board—but he can’t source the part because he’s not an authorized Juki dealer. So now I’m weighing the real-world costs and hassle: parts availability, repair estimates, labor, and even the time and travel involved (including options in Montreal or shipping to Winnipeg). I found a U.S. source for the circuit board at about $325 USD, which becomes roughly $400–$450 CAD before labor, and that’s pushing me toward buying a new machine. I talk through what I love about the Juki—power, all-metal build, speed, simplicity (straight stitch + free-motion quilting is all I need)—and I ask for your advice on whether to repair or replace, and what to replace it with. A local shop suggested a similar Brother straight-stitch machine, and I’m curious about your real experiences and recommendations.
