No music, no talking, just quilting. Follow along in this short video as I machine quilt some daisies in a Double Irish Chain quilt with some finished photos at the end. I find the process of machine quilting meditative in many ways. The constant buzz of the machine and the smooth, flowing movements of the quilt under the needle can be relaxing if everything is working well. Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, or ASMR, is a reported tingling sensation that usually begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. For some, this response is triggered by certain noises, visuals, or even experiences. The term is relatively new and overall scientific support is limited, but the phenomena has resulted in an entire genre of videos on YouTube. For an interesting article on ASMR see: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/04/magazine/how-asmr-videos-became-a-sensation-youtube.html. Like anything, ASMR trends come and go, and while quilting has not yet emerged as a trending ASMR topic, videos that show a long-arm quilting machine in action are fascinating.
