I recently hauled the new Hourglass holiday Jellyfish Palette, and for this video I wanted to do a full face of Hourglass and really focus on that palette—without automatically reaching for my other Hourglass powders unless I absolutely had to. I picked the lightest palette because I’m light olive and I’ve learned my lesson (last year I bought the deepest one and I just knew I’d never use it). I walk you through my base with the Ambient Soft Glow Foundation in shade 5, and I show exactly why I have to mix in blue pigment to desaturate Hourglass shades that pull too yellow/orange on me. Once my base is down, I set with the Hourglass loose powder so the finishing powders glide and don’t catch. Then we get into the Jellyfish Palette: I test the Lunar Bronze (it has a bit of a pink sheen), layer the two blushes (berry on the back of the cheeks, pink more toward the apples), and use the strobe/highlight shades—even though the opal leans a little pink for my preference. I finish by blending everything with Diffuse Light (my favorite) and brightening under the eyes with Ethereal Light. I also try the Hourglass eyeshadow stick for an easy everyday lid, and then we have a mascara rant: the Hourglass Lash Curator tool is cool in theory, but the mascara formula I found was dry and flaky, so I end up comparing it to my Neogen mascara on the other eye. Palette? Loved. Mascara situation? Still annoyed.
