Drag and Drop is coming to Home Assistant.... Eventually This is just an update on my progress and where I am planning to be Sponsor Me: https://github.com/sponsors/zsarnett

About This Video

In this video I’m giving a quick, honest update on Drag & Drop for Home Assistant dashboards—because I know a ton of you have been waiting on it, and I said it’d be ready sooner. The reality is I didn’t deliver it for the last release, mostly because my day job has been absolutely swamping me. I’m still actively working on it, and my goal (not a promise) is to get it in before the December release, with a potential announcement around the Home Assistant conference. I also talk through what the first rollout is likely going to look like: an alpha/beta where you’ll enable a Drag & Drop view by setting the view “type” in the Raw Configuration Editor (so yes, you’ll be touching config files / raw config first). After that, I want to build the UI editor support so you can select it without digging into config. I’m also leaning away from totally freeform resizing—more like small/medium/large/x-large per card—because a free-for-all gets messy fast and can be a terrible UX. The biggest blocker is responsive behavior: what happens when you drag cards around on desktop and then shrink to mobile? Do cards shift masonry-style, keep gaps, or reflow into new rows? I’m planning to sync with Bram (front-end) to align on the final approach, and I’ll keep streaming progress so you can give feedback and edge cases.
