About This Video

In this video I’m walking you through my new construction house and, room by room, laying out my Home Assistant smart home plans. I start in the downstairs office and what I’m calling my “networking room” closet—this is where the rack is going, where my Ubiquiti gear will live (Dream Machine Pro, PoE switch, etc.), and where all the Ethernet runs and conduit come together. I also point out some of the builder-provided wins like the pre-wiring for door/window contact sensors and the Z-Wave lock that came with the house. From there I hit the kitchen, dining, living room, bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry, and garage and talk through the automations I actually care about: motion-triggered under-cabinet LED strips for midnight snacks, robot vacuum scheduling (Roborock S7+ with auto-empty), smart fireplace control, and smart garage door openers. I also show the Honeywell T6 Pro thermostat that surprised me by being Z-Wave out of the box, plus my wall tablet locations (with PoE wiring behind the wall) for dashboards I’ll build in future videos. And yes—if you stick around to the end, you’ll see my “goodie drawer” in the office packed with smart home gear I’ll be using for upcoming builds and tutorials.
