About This Video

In this video I walk you through building what I still think is one of the cleanest Home Assistant dashboards you can make—using the Custom Mushroom Card. The whole point of Mushroom (shoutout to Paul Bozen) is that you can get a minimal, modern look without living in YAML. Everything is built with UI editors, the options are actually usable, and it’s designed to be glanceable—so you can open your dashboard and instantly know what’s going on. I start by showing the structure I use every day: Mushroom chips at the top for quick info like weather and front door lock status, then room cards in a grid so I can see which rooms have lights on/off, followed by thermostat cards (also in that cleaner vertical layout), and then camera previews using the native Picture Entity card with the name/state hidden for a cleaner image. After that, I build a second “room” dashboard (my office) with a back button chip, Mushroom light card with brightness controls, simple sensor graphs for temp/humidity, and a cover card for blinds with position controls. Finally, I link the dashboards together with a tap action → navigate, so each room card jumps you into its dedicated view—fast, partner-approved, and super practical.
