Yeah, the title isn’t lying — I quit my job and I’m going full time on Home Assistant. Starting January 6th, 2022, I’m joining the team at Nabu Casa, and I wanted to walk you through what that actually means, why I’m doing it, and what I’m aiming for this year. Home Assistant has been a passion of mine for a long time, but work kept pushing it to the back foot — my YouTube channel, my own automations, and especially frontend development. That changes now. In the video I rewind a bit: from early home automation with X10 RF devices, to Google Home and Philips Hue, and then going all-in with Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi and my first server. I talk about finding the community, building custom cards, and contributing to Lovelace alongside Paulus, Bram, Ian Thomas, and others. Then I lay out my 2022 goals: more consistent content (including my home build process, networking/Wi‑Fi 6, cameras, sensors, and a full office refresh), plus refining the frontend experience while keeping advanced functionality and YAML around. And yes — drag and drop for Lovelace isn’t dead; no guarantees, but it’s still part of refining how the frontend feels.
