About This Video

In this video I walk through how I build a simple-but-functional Lovelace dashboard for security cameras, using Reolink as the example. I’m not trying to “blow you away” with a crazy UI here—the goal is to give you a repeatable pattern you can drop into any dashboard (like my tile dashboard for mobile). I show my two Reolink cameras (E1 Zoom indoors and the RLC-511W outdoors) running inside Home Assistant so I can glance at live video and still keep the dashboard clean. I also cover the quick setup on the Home Assistant side: enabling the stream component and adding each camera as a generic camera platform in configuration.yaml. The key is the RTSP stream source—grab your camera’s IP from the Reolink app, then plug it into the RTSP format with your username and password. Once that’s in place and you restart Home Assistant, you get camera entities you can drop straight into a Picture Glance card. From there, I switch the card to “live” view, add room entities (like lights and a fan), and even use tap actions to navigate to another dashboard view. It’s an easy way to make cameras actually useful inside the dashboards you already use every day.
