About This Video

In this video I’m basically kicking off 2021 by asking you what you want to see—both from Home Assistant itself and from my channel. I want you to drop comments on what features you’re hoping for, whether that’s frontend, backend, dashboards, reviews, tutorials… whatever you’re into. I also share the main things I’m personally planning to focus on, because I’m trying to make sure I’m building and covering the stuff that actually helps you day-to-day. On the Home Assistant side, I want to keep polishing Lovelace cards—especially the thermostat and light cards. That round slider UI isn’t great (it kind of sucks when it’s small), so I’m thinking about removing it and moving to something more usable like vertical/horizontal sliders or simple plus/minus buttons. I also want the More Info dialogs to look and feel less dated, and I want to keep working with Paulus and Braum on “strategies” (auto dashboards) so the default dashboards don’t feel useless and can build themselves based on areas and favorites. And yeah—drag & drop + resize for Lovelace is still a huge goal, with a beta already out and a target of getting it solid in Q1. For the channel, I’m still frontend-focused, but I want to expand into smart home gear reviews, beginner-friendly “getting started” content, more dashboard design how-to’s, and my favorite custom cards—so you can build a beautiful UI without needing to go too deep into the nitty gritty.
